Chapter VI is Greek and Latin Book Production. Chapters VIII and IX discuss Outlying Regions consisting of Ancient Middle East, Central and Southern Asia, Far East, and Pre-Columbian America. Chapter X is Anglo-Celtic Contributions to the Development of the Medieval Book and a Conclusion - the Fate of Books. Chapter Xi is an Appendix of Inks, Pens, and Other Writing Tools Plus a General Bibliography and Index. More than one hundred black and white photographs of knot-reords, notched sticks, wooden tablets, diptychs, bamboo book, linen, whale bone, cuneiform, hieroglyphics, Chinese, Maya and Aztec symbols, Cherokee syllabary, and much, much more.

Condition: Withdrawn from the National Geographic Society Library - card pocket, book plate, neat imprint title page, neat withdrawn stamp. Well cared for book with no marks of any kind to the text or illustrations.Overall condition is fine.
