He was educated at Pennsylvania College and Theological Seminary, Gettysburg,Pa 1830-'6. He was pastor of churches in Harrisburg. Pa., Martinsburg,{West} Virginia, and Chambersburg,Pa., from 1836 till 1849, after which he was president of Wittenburg College, Springfield, Ohio, until 1874. Since that year he has been professor of systematic theology there. Washington college, Pennsylvania, gave him the degree of D.D. in 1850, and Pennsylvania college that of LL. D. in 1874. Dr. Sprecher," is the author of "The Providential Position of the Evangelical Churches of this Country at this Time" (Selins-grove, 1864); "Groundwork of a System of Evangelical Lutheran Theology" (Philadelphia, 1879) ; and various addresses.
